That's a lot of sugar in soda pop

529 - US consumption of soda (12-ounce servings) per person per year
500%  increase in per capita soft drink consumption over the last 50 years 
9 teaspoons of sugar per 12-ounce bottle
44 pounds of sugar per year from drinking soda for the average American (9 teaspoons x 529 cans = 4,761 teaspoons / 109 teaspoons per pound = 44 pounds).
