Love Songs

The song "Can't Take My Eyes Off of You" is a great love song I think. Adrian Grenier performed the song in a recent episode of Entourage. And it's no doubt been performed many times on TV and in movies. For example Heath Ledger sang it to Julia Styles in the movie "10 Things I Hate About You".

Just for yucks I put together a list (playlist) of love songs. I searched the internet a bit first to get a feel for what other people like and what surprised me is how little consensus there is on love songs. Almost everybody has a different favorite love song so I suppose the list I came up with would just be a sampling.
For the most part I prefer love songs with lots of emotion or passion and I don't care if they're sappy. As an example of my perspective I would use the scene from the movie Dan in Real Life where Dan's middle daughter's boyfriend drives off and the girl goes nuts, she totally goes to pieces. I got a kick out that scene. She's so over the top. But that's how it feels if you really let yourself go and you're a passionate person. That's how an emotional teenager would act it seems to me. Before we become "grown-up" and learn to be in control.

The tail end of this clip shows part of the scene I'm talking about.

Here's my list:

Acts of kindness

I was wondering why people aren't nicer to each other. I for one really appreciate it when someone is nice to me. Any act of kindness makes me feel a better. I wonder is it that life is hard so we become hardened to it's pain? Or am I wrong, are acts of kindness common? Or maybe I just don't associate with the right people?

And then there's the other side of it. Me being kind to others. Can I make a difference? I don't believe in some grand cascading effect as in the movie "Pay It Forward." But I wonder if people respond at all. If you pour yourself into kindness, filling a well so to speak, does it come back to you or does it simply leach out into the great nothingness. I think the act of being kind has to stand on its own with nothing in return. In that regard and in many other ways I think how much a person has to give has a great deal to do with how much love and kindness they received as a child.

A few favorite Monty Python skits

I actually like listening to the audio recordings better than the videos.

TiVo is great

I've had TiVo for about seven years or so now so I know it well. I originally got TiVo because of the time shifting capabilities. I would sit down to watch TV about 10:30 pm after everyone else in my house had gone to bed but there wasn't much on that I wanted to watch. I remember watching a lot of Leave it to Beaver reruns. Then along came TiVo and I could watch whatever I wanted whenever I wanted. In addition, I could use it to easily zip past the commercials. And the auto recording capability was amazing. Setting it to search and record all show of a particular actor, subject, title etc. and having it auto record all regular shows that I wanted to watch. Anyway, all these years later I can't imagine watching TV without it. I find it annoying now to watch unrecorded shows because of the commercials. So I highly recommend TiVo if you can get it. Not all DVR (digital video recorder) services are the same however. I recently added another receiver because I wanted HD and since DirecTV (my signal provider) does not offer a TiVo HD DVR at this point I had to get their DVR system – not as good. TiVo is the best in my opinion. I think something like only 15% of the TV households have DVR service. I gotta say if you watch TV and you don't want to be tied to the broadcaster's schedule or you want to skip the commercials TiVo is for you too.
